Programs
Our Club offers 4 programs; Preschool, Canskate, PowerSkate and Star Skate ( test level).
Below is a few tid-bits about each of the programs:
Preschool
Preschool is a program for the little ones who are just beginning to skate. Preschool teaches a few basics like balancing, getting up, and forward skating. Preschool uses many games and toys to help kids learn how to skate. Preschool is the beginner program and helps kids to advance to the Canskate program.
CanSkate
CanSkate is Skate Canada's flagship learn-to-skate program for beginners of all ages that teaches fundamental movements (go forward, go backward, stop, turn, spin and jump) and basic skills. CanSkate is set up in seven stages and each stage has a badge to be rewarded to kids who have completed each stage.
CanSkate emphasizes fun and continuous movement and is taught in a group lesson format; CanSkate is taught by professional Skate Canada professional coaches and assisted by trained Program Assistants. There are five goals of the Canskate program:
To provide basic skating instruction in a group format
To introduce skaters to the principles of Jumping, "Figure Skating", Speed, Challenge, Performance, Safety
To introduce skaters to the five fundamental movements of Figure Skating
To encourage and identify "Talented Skaters" so that they are fast-tracked through Skate Canada system of training
To promote all skaters through Skate Canada system of training in a seamless manner.
Powerskate
PowerSkate, which provides an alternative to figure skating, focuses on teaching balance, power, agility, speed and endurance skills which are especially important for Figure skating, hockey and other sports.
PowerSkate is best for skaters who already have basic forward and backward skating skills and are able to stop on command without use of the boards.
PowerSkate will teach skaters to develop and improve both their personal style of skating plus improve the biomechanical efficiency of their skating. Once the individual is skating efficiently, the focus changes to developing power and strength.
